Zero liquid discharge (ZLD) in Oil & Gas and Coal-to-chemical (CTX) industries

To reuse every drop of freshwater from high TDS/COD waste water

Water recovery in Oil & gas

Drilling and hydraulic fracturing in oil and nature gas industries requires significant volumes of water, which are pumped into the well with sand and chemicals to facilitate the gas extraction. Even though some volumes of brackish water are being reused, fresh water is still highly required to avoid equipment damage. The growing need for the fresh water leads to pressure on the water treatment technology with higher efficiency and extreme recovery (ZLD) to recycle every fresh water on site. Memsys has been proven to be capable of concentrating high TDS wastewater from shale gas industry with very low energy consumption and high freshwater recovery.

Water recovery in CTX industriy

In China, the government has promoted the development of “new coal industry” that uses coal as a feedstock for different chemical production processes. Coal-to-chemical (CTX) plants are large consumers of water and they are located predominantly in regions that are coal abundant but water scarce. This results in ZLD technology being considered and applied for this market sector since the wastewater is not allowed to be discharged into the surrounding environment and evaporation ponds. Conventional wastewater treatment technologies cannot deal with such highly polluted wastewater produced by CTX industries. Memsys has run successful onsite pilot testing to prove its potential to be one of the key technologies in the ZLD process for CTX industry.
